Don't black Hat!

sawbones - 2001

The links between designing a world beating web page and delivering content are closer than you think. Words are the building blocks of all great websites. By selecting the best words available you stand a better chance of creating a world beater. By using the best combination of words and web optimization techniques you may end up creating a successful website. There is no need to be subversive if the content of your pages are good - you have no need to use illegal methods.

A black hat is often a term to describe a villain or bad guy, this metaphor is visualised in western movies where the 'baddie' wears a black hat in contrast to the hero's white hat. The phrase is used in computing slang, where it refers to a hackers or the 'dark arts' of search engine optimisation (also called spamdexing). Using black hat tricks in optimization of sites will result in being banned by the major search engine. Over loading keywords, meta tags and content key words will result in a loss of ranking and will inevitably lead to your website un-indexed.

Black hat applied in the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) industry, uses SEO tactics that attempt to redirect search results to particular target pages in a fashion that is against the search engines' terms of service. White hat methods are generally approved by the search engines.

Some of the blackhat SEO tactics include: keyword stuffing, hidden text and links, doorway and cloaked pages, link farming and blog comment spam.

Getting off a blacklist is difficult and can be a frustrating experience - Don't black Hat!

Are you having problems being seen by the major search engines? - Do you type in your name and not even appear on page three? The simple reason for this might be that they don’t know you even exist.

The most efficient way (we have found) to get noticed is to place a simple xml site map onto your site and then physically submit the page(s) to the major players.

Yes there are other important steps to take - the mysterious ‘Search Engine Optimisation’ but even so you still have to be visible in the first place.
We will create an xml sitemap (example) and a simple html sitemap (example) and then submit your site to Google - we use a none automated piece of software so we know it gets to the right place.

Sitemap Service for £2.50 - site map generator

When we have received your payment we will send you a zip file (which you need to unzip) with all the site map files/images you need to upload to your server. Only upload the files and images and not the folder. These files and images must be placed in your root directory so that the url is www.yourownsite.whatever/sitemap.html (and .xml). When you have done this email us back to say it is done and we will submit it to Google.
