Business growth = strategic alliances

Creating strategic alliances between companies and/or individuals enables common goals to be achieved for mutual benefit. You don’t have to be a massive organization to benefit from cooperation, sometimes a big fish needs a smaller fish to develop ideas and strategies – get out there find a partner!

Strategic alliances are critical  for companies who are trying to compete globally. Customers require integrated products and this need is forcing companies to work together to create packages (eg car hire combined with hotel accommodation and air travel).  Well organized, networked alliances create new products and accelerate mutual growth.

 Peter Bright - Artist

What do people who spend their working days in front of the computer do when they get home? Do they turn on their PC or Mac straight away and eat diner in front of it gaming or searching for porn?

Computers drive me nuts, they are so predictable - they conk out or create the same prescriptive rubbish over and over again....

This is what I do, which probably proves my words of warning to my kids, "You spend to much time in front of that computer, it will drive you insane' - I think I have!

I have begun a series of prints called “Saint Austell” - a saint from the 6th century who was a confessor and disciple of St. Newman of Cornwall, England. Modern scholars believe that Austell was a woman named Hoystill, a daughter of Brychan of Wales. Her (?) feastday  is June 28.

Q U O T E
Christianity with its unchangeable principles, and without misjudging the justifiable demands of the age, undertakes to guide the woman movement also into the right path. The life-task of woman is a double one.
  • As an individual woman has the high destiny obligatory upon every human being of acquiring moral perfection.
  • As a member of the human race woman is called in union with man to represent humanity and to develop it on all sides.

A new exhibition of prints and smaller works is planned for June 2011. Below is an extract from his blog:
Peter Bright - Artist

In preparation for an exhibition in June I have begun to draw again. My previous methodology relied on me subcontracting my creativity to either ‘chance’, allowing the medium to take partial control over the finished image or by letting the computer system deal with my creativity in its prescriptive manner – the program has ways of dealing with commands in a very limit way, hacking the software is the only way of producing images that are different from our everyday visual blitzkrieg of imagery…we are subjected to via the Internet, the printed page and video.

Going back to the basic skills of drawing is an interesting excursion – a journey I’m not sure I will complete. Drawing a life model for the first times in decades was a bit daunting but old tricks and shortcuts were soon remembered and in many respects drawing is a bit like riding a bicycle.

WYSIWYG - KompoZer

We have been using KompoZer which is a WYSIWYG web page program based on Gecko, the layout engine inside Mozilla. If you are familiar with DreamWeaver you will feel right at home with KompoZer, as it is quick and reliable, supporting XML, CSS and JavaScript, making it a great alternative to other expensive web designing platforms on the market.

  • KompoZer is a stand-alone tool; hence its small size and fast speed.
  • WYSIWYG editing of pages, making web creation as easy as typing a letter with your word processor.
  • Integrated file management via FTP. Simply login to your web site and navigate through your files, editing web pages on the fly, directly from your site.
  • Reliable HTML code creation that will work with all of today's most popular browsers.
  • Jump between WYSIWYG Editing Mode and HTML using tabs.
  • Tabbed editing to make working on multiple pages a snap.
  • Powerful support for forms, tables, and templates.
  • The easiest-to-use, most powerful Web Authoring System available for Desktop Linux, Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh users.
  • Its architecture based on XUL.
We are using it in conjunction with Ubuntu (10.10) and have only suffered a few minor glitches where the program has stuttered when importing JavaScript. We can recommend this software as a simple web production tool and love some of its tools, especially the code cleaning facility which gets rid of most of the annoying surplus code you pick up when constantly re-editing pages.

Recycling and bad business advice

Has the Internet sawn itself in half - with some people avoiding spending on Internet retail sites?

However - the top-performing online products were: Computer Software, Consumer Electronics, Books/Magazines, Computers/Peripherals/PDAs.

Reports and rumors reveal that e-commerce spending is becoming polarized, with websites like lovemoney.com advising readers not to buy products like books (recommending swap sites, bookmooch.com and readitswapit.co.uk) advising their readers to use these alternatives instead of Amazon etc. On the surface this cheap, recycling, money saving piece advise sounds like a good idea but...

Industries like the book industry are struggling to make a profit so advising people not to buy new books not only puts retailers out of business - do you have an independent book seller on the high street of your town? - it also means there will be fewer 'quality' publications physically published and new authors will be unable to make a living, simply because they will have to self publish.

People are constantly looking for free promotions from businesses and are no longer prepared to pay a fare price for things. We have appeared to embraced the ‘something for nothing’ culture  and are consequently (probably) destroying the fundamental laws of capitalism… Continue reading

If you want to read a book for free why not use your local Library? Closures of this fine institution are imminent due to lack of support from the general public so instead of sitting in front of your computer looking for free deals why not go to the Library and get the real deal! Not only do you get a free book the author of the book you borrow will get a small micro payment - that seems a more fair deal to me.

The search for new content is a crucial day to day exercise to show your returning visitors that pages are being updated. This task becomes almost impossible when you have nearly said everything there is to say. Try to re-package your blogs content or your websites information and widen your audience - not everyone reacts to the same information in the same way, some people like to read blogs and some like to read more structured information and content.

You can spend hours and hours staring at a blank screen, surfing the web fooling yourself you are working. If you actually analyze the amount of time you spend doing nothing - recycle your ideas to rejuvenate your website, blog or product description.

Keywords or search terms

Most people seem to fail to understand how the Internet works; lacking the understanding of how to get the most out of their blogs and websites (quitting when they fail to make a quick income).

To be effective, you must be able to find your web site based on keywords or search terms – which prospective clients may enter into a search box on a Search Engine when looking for your product or service. It is vital Search Engines direct traffic to your website’s content.

The content of your blog or website has to be either useful or informative, constructed within a cohesive structure that is easy to navigate and understand. Where does the visitor go when he lands on your page? You have to hang on to the interloper and steer them in the right direction. Create a cage that keeps them locked into your site and tame them so they don't want to leave. It is no good being left with a deserted graveyard of a site, dumped in the bone yard of forgotten web dreams. Set your traps carefully, snare your visitors.

It is important to survive and once your site is accepted by the search engines, with time, maturity will make you more successful. Being around on the web for a few years is better than being the new kid on the block.
