Exposing screen - #Printmaking

Preparing a screen for printing using an artificial light source.

Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. In this case a light sensitive film coating has been applied to the screen prior to exposure to a light source. The processed stencil forms open areas of mesh that allows ink to be pressed through the mesh. A squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas.

Screen printing is method of printmaking and is also known as silkscreen, seriography, or serigraph.

#Printmaking is not Art

Printmaking has always been the poor relation of the art world. The print is something we traditionally buy as a reproduction of a serious piece of work (painting). The tradition of printing has evolved and the print maker maybe an … Continue reading →

(In Paperback)
Published by Orion 21 July 2011

Delilah Rafferty has lived out her tempestuous marriage to hell-raiser Raf in the full glare of the media spotlight. Now, from the luxurious comfort of her beautiful kitchen, Delilah is planning her birthday party, a night that will see a star-studded gathering of friends and family celebrate in traditional Rafferty style. But she has more on her mind than just invitations...

Raf has been offered a part in a movie he can't refuse. But will that mean he'll succumb to the temptations he's struggled so hard to resist for the last ten years - beautiful women and too much wine? And Delilah's three daughters, Coco, Violet and Tyger, are building careers of their own, only too aware that the press are waiting for them to slip up. For although the Rafferty girls might look like angels, they are only human.
As with all families, there are secrets and rivalries bubbling away, and on one gloriously starry night, it's all going to come spilling out This is your invitation to a birthday party of the year...

First in Google?: Don't hide your business

Landscape Through A Train Window

Small business can deliver to the whole world via the Internet but there is still a lot of cash to be made by concentrating on local markets. There are now hundreds of local search engines available to use and submit to that claim to deliver specific localized searches.

More and more, buyers are looking online for products or services local to them, a business that is just around the corner always somehow feels safer than another in the next county and search engines, including Google, are enabling the client to find local enterprises by including a map of local businesses in search results. Will your clients find you? Whether you are selling online or off you need to be visible.

Don't hide your business: "Obscuring the object is a bad idea, camoflaging your website's content is a mistake. Keep to the point and up to date. There is nothing worse than a web site that contains out of date information....this gives the buying public the wrong impression..."

Creating keywords

Beauty and the Beast - painting 2011 by This Window
Creating good solid business keywords is not a decorative process it is a complicated exercise. Juxtaposing words together is a bit like creating a collage, the mind always tries to create a narrative when confronted with the written word. The juxtaposition of arbitrary phrases etc. will always tease and trick the mind into rationalizing what it is in front of it and attempt to make physical and world references - in other words try to make sense of what it is trying to analyze. These are the same processes that are used in understanding art Continue reading ?

How to be Pretentious, look stupid and fail

This text is subject to prescriptive/predictive rules of a system aesthetic. This text has been written on four computers, two of which are on a network and two of which are stand-alone systems. Each computer is running a different version of a Windows operating systems, (Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows XP). The text is written in Microsoft Word, three are using version 2000 and one is version 97. Three versions are operating with an English dictionary and one (v.2000) is using an American/English dictionary. This text has been written in two locations, my homes in Bromsgrove and Woolacombe. This text has been subject to 100′s of system protocols, however the structure of the text is predictable; each computer has its own subtle nuances and offers syntax and grammatical recommendations. I am not completely responsible for this text, my systems are. My main contribution is editing and using the cut and paste facility. If I had attempted to write this in its finished running order, it would have taken me longer to write…my spelling is appalling and my grasp of grammar is minimal…the written word is not my preferred method of expression. This text would not exist without the existence of the system.

This page has been created in a non web-prescriptive manor. The use of Times New Roman font is a positive reaction to the webs political and aesthetic values. I do not wish to be cool and use prescriptive methods of page creation. I have written this in Word (one of the most frowned upon web-prescriptive creative tools) and not Dreamweaver or any other trendy formulaic program..I do not want to be a part of the webs system of aesthetics. (However if you look at the source the urge to fiddle with the code was irresistible. This was done in notepad and in Star Office (Linux) . I have made this page unstable.)
I do not encourage the use of pirated or hacked software.

Using keywords is part of SEO. Search engine optimization also involves several other processes; fine tuning a web site’s coding, presentation (how text, images and content are presented) and structure (including fixing problems that could prevent search engines indexing and fully exploring a site). It is important to avoid techniques such as black hat or spamdexing and keyword stuffing. We can help...

Postcard for exhibition

I will mail you a postcard of an image that was exhibited recently in an exhibition of mine. I have always loved the idea of Mail Art - the forerunner of the Internet!

Mail art is a worldwide cultural movement that began in the early 1960s and involves sending visual art (but also music, sound art, poetry, etc.) through the international postal system. Mail Art is also known as Postal Art or Correspondence Art. The term networking is often used to describe Mail Art activities, based on the principles of barter and equal one-to-one collaboration.

After a peak in popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Mail Art phenomenon has gradually migrated to the Internet, whose “social networks” were largely anticipated and predicted by the interactive processes of postal collaborations. Nevertheless, Mail Art is still practiced in the new Millennium by a loose planetary community involving thousands of mailartists from the most varied backgrounds.
