Music to SEO with

"Go" is the debut single recorded by British Singer Delilah.

The song was released as a single on 6 September 2011 as a digital download in the United Kingdom from her upcoming debut album. Delilah featured on Chase & Status's hit "Time" earlier this year, which reached number 21 on the UK Singles Chart. Like 'Time', 'Go' utilizes some light drum and bass, though only towards the end of the track.

The song features lyrics and melodies from the 1983 Chaka Khan hit, "Ain't Nobody" ("The next thing I felt was you / Holding me close / What am I gonna do? / I let myself go"). In an interview with Pyromag in September 2011, Delilah mentioned that Chaka Khan has heard the track and thought it was "genius"

Today I'm off to Exeter to talk to the lovely Judi Spiers at Radio Devon about my new book, Marriage and Other Games, which comes out on 21 October. I bumped into her at Appledore Festival on Saturday, where we were both appering. No doubt we will touch on the subject of chick lit while we are there, and whether it is dead. Absolutely not! There are still legions of people out there buying uplifting, heartwarming, life-affirming fiction, which provides a much deserved escape during these tough times. And books still provide remarkably good value for money. So go on - stick one in your trolley!

While I'm there I get to choose a piece of music. I'm totally in love with this song at the moment, Go by Delilah. It is inspired by one of my old favourites, Ain't Nobody by Chaka Khan, which takes me right back to the eighties. But the spare way it's produced, and her stunning voice, send shivers down my spine. Gorgeous.

Support authors, support a good industry

#chicklitisnotdead

Interesting reading in the UK press about the demise of 'Women's Commercial Fiction' - why does the UK (press) always criticize successful industries and people? They still generate massive tax revenues for the government. Is this a smart move in times of crippling recession?
The beauty of the Internet, art (including the book industry) is that we can all lose ourselves in fantasy and dream worlds - surely this is a tonic not a crime?

Leave the arts alone! - after all we have little funding!

Get real! We are all taking a hit on sales, houses, pay packets etc. and any profit is a bonus for the National Debt.

via veronica_henry:

As the figures prove. Women's commercial fiction still huge despite downturn.

Last live session

This is a hybrid performance which is an eclectic mix of the avant-garde ramblings of the early experimentation pieces of ‘Extraction’ and the 'dark song' musings of the tortured artist. Sadly this appears to be the last known live recording of This Window.

Double bass (Jake Bright) and guitar (Peter Bright) played with screwdrivers. Recorded and transmitted live on Soundart Radio (FM) Dartington College, Nr Totnes on 8th August 2008. The double bass was miked up and played through a Marshall Stack - very loud in a very small studio!

Drawing a life model

Begin to draw again

Drawing a life model for the first time is a bit daunting but once you start tricks and shortcuts are soon discovered and in many respects drawing is a bit like riding a bicycle.

The human figure is one of the most enduring themes in the visual arts. We are all human beings and we are attracted to other human figures - we can be attracted by beauty or lust. Life drawing can be the basis of portraiture, cartoons and comic book illustration, sculpture, medical illustration, and other referential illustrative uses. Figure drawing can be done very simply, as in gestural drawing, or in greater detail, using charcoal, pencil or other drawing tools.

Keywords for business blog

20110924-152401.jpg
Most people seem to fail to understand how the Internet works; lacking the understanding of how to get the most out of their blogs and websites (quitting when they fail to make a quick income). Read more...

How do you actually write a good blog post?

The first important step is to have something to say and then be able to express your thoughts in a cohesive style. Is your blog humorous, informative or extremely serious?

The search for new content is a crucial day to day exercise to show your returning visitors that pages are being updated. This task becomes almost impossible when you have nearly said everything there is to say. Try to re-package your blogs content or your websites information and widen your audience - not everyone reacts to the same information in the same way, some people like to read blogs and some like to read more structured information and content.

As a marketing strategy for increasing a site’s relevance, we have to consider how search algorithms work and what people search for. Search engine optimization efforts involve; fine tuning a web site’s coding, presentation (how text, images and content are presented) and structure (including fixing problems that could prevent search engines indexing and fully exploring a site). Another class of techniques, known as black hat or spamdexing, use methods that included link farms and keyword stuffing. These techniques are used to harm search engine user experience. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques and in extreme cases remove them from their search indices. There are conflicting methodologies on this subject, some website gurus advocate littering your posts with links and keywords - this might be seen as search engine optimization but maybe in reality this makes boring reading. A good blog post is one that is engaging, interesting and memorable and a well written blog will always be superior to a mish-mash of keywords.

Network = Mail #Art = social networks?

Mail Art invented social networks:

Mail art is a worldwide art and music movement that began in the early 1960s. the principle is simple you send visual art (but also music, sound art, poetry, etc.) through the international postal system. Mail Art is sometimes known as Postal Art or Correspondence Art. Mail Art is a network, based on the principles of barter and equal one-to-one collaboration.

After a peak in popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Mail Art phenomenon has gradually migrated to the Internet, whose “social networks” were largely anticipated and predicted by the interactive processes of postal collaborations. Nevertheless, Mail Art is still practiced by a loose planetary community involving thousands of mail artists from the most varied backgrounds.

See This Window the pseudonym of Peter Bright.

Using established networks can be an important way to achieve growth in small, medium and large businesses. If you get it right the flood gates will open and visitors will come flooding in! Sales will increase and your profile will soar. It is important that a robust strategy is created for a network sales campaign to succeed, achieve this and you will create a formidable and powerful tool.

We are all now all very aware that the success of a website depends on a myriad of variable factors. One stratagem employed by Optimizers is to 'sell the brand' via social networking sites. One of the main distributors is Twitter - if you already have an account you will be aware that the posts placed are 99% twitter shit. There are however more niche networking sites. Read more...

Remember it is the visible content of your site is the most important search engine optimization weapon in your arsenal. Well written content and text is (strategically) a far more useful use of your time than messing about with key word tags. The most effective way to get your website business into search engines is to create a sitemap. A site map enables search engines to index, crawl and find pages on your site – efficiently and quickly. Creating a sitemap, is without doubt, the primary action every website owner should take before doing anything else.

Business - Creativity

Buy Art - Business: Your web presence is important, a vital link between ‘you’ and ‘them’. This is a vital marketing strategy.

The cliché 'we can learn from history' is in many cases nonsense - we continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. We do however have to ride that fast learning curve to create new product and have new ideas. Business is not a static immovable object it has to evolve. We have to morph into different markets, pushing our ideas onto the next phase - this is what artists do. Boundaries have to be broken and new frontiers challenged or we simply have to do it better than our rivals. We simply have to be creative.

There are some reference books that follow you and stay with you through out your life. ‘Art Since Pop‘ is such a book, published in 1975 (by Dolphin). This book simply sets out to do what it says in the title … Continue reading

What is new about painting?

Contemporary artists have extended the boundaries of painting considerably to include; collage, different materials such as sand, cement, straw or wood for their texture. Juxtaposing images and materials, either as a collage, printing or painting is not simply a decorative process it is a complicated exercise. The mind always tries to create a narrative between images and materials. The juxtaposition of arbitrary marks, color, photographs etc. will always tease and trick the mind into rationalizing what it is trying to process and attempt to make physical world references – in other words make sense of what it is trying to analyze.

Since the proliferation of computers, painting could be argued to have migrated to the digital age (world). There is a massive community of artists who use computers to paint color onto a digital canvas using programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter, Gimp and others. Does this mean that new printing techniques have now become absorbed into painting methodologies and practices?

This meshing together of processes, unrelated imagery and the breaking down of barriers cannot be seen as a shortcut to intellectual credibility. The dedicated thought process that goes with the creative procedure should be one of intense reasoning. It is therefore unrealistic to expect the uneducated masses to use the computers prescriptive decision making to create ‘real art’. The birth of Photoshop has enabled everybody to create ‘non-intellectual’ versions of Rauschenberg (and Warhol) - this is not ART.
